Did you know that little button (or glans if we’re being scientific) of your clit contains “approximately 8,000 sensory nerve fibers,” which is nearly twice as many as the head of your boyfriend’s dick? Neither did I, or anyone else for that matter, until 2009. Yep, you heard right, 2009. For all the hundreds of years that humans have been exploring and investigating human sexuality and anatomy, it wasn’t until 3 years ago that the clitoris was really studied. And what you thought you knew about the clit is actually just the tip of the iceberg.

io9, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite blog, reports on the no-longer-so-mysterious clitoris, and provides pictures!

Apparently the clitoris is internally extensive, what we commonly refer to as the clit is really just the glans, a very small part of a much larger structure. This is particularly interesting because it means that though female orgasms have previously been categorized as either clitoral OR vaginal, in reality both are clitoral. What we previously called a vaginal orgasm is actually an internal clitoral orgasm. It’s all about the clit, baby!

So why has it taken so long for scientists to figure all this out about such an important part of the female anatomy? Probably because the clitoris is the only structure on the human body that exists purely for pleasure. Think about it, we don’t need a clit to reproduce or urinate or anything else, it exists solely to provide pleasure. While scientists were taking MRI s of the penis back in the 1970′s, no one delved into the clit with an MRI machine until 2005. Ouch, science, that burns, it really does.

So because I abhor commercials and paying for them via cable, I’ve resigned myself to paying only for Netflix instant streaming.  As such, I’m at the mercy of those heartless programers at Netflix, who only upload “new” content several years after it’s been released.  Because of this dilemma, my pop-culture/television references are a little dated.  So it is with great shame that I come late to the game that is the television show Dhani Tackles The Globe.

If you’ve never seen this show (on the Travel Channel for all yous richy-rich cable peoples out there), and you are into hot guys who are interesting and cool, watch it.

Dhani Jones, is a former NFL linebacker for the Eagles, Saints, Bengals and Giants.  He started for the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX.  Though he officially retired from the NFL in 2011, he shot the 1st season of Dhani Tackles The Globe in 2010 during the football off season.

The show’s premise is simple. Dhani Jones, professional American football athlete, travels around the world to train and participate in the host country’s national sport. In Italy, Jones races in the molto difficult Gran Fondo del Monte Grappa.  A grueling 80 mile long bicycle race in Northern Italy, 17 of which are uphill at a steep incline.  Jones finished in 6 hours.

    In Switzerland!

In Senegal he trained in the popular Lutte sport, a type of wrestling and in Croatia he tackled Water Polo.  It’s interesting to see this elite American athlete compete in other culture’s sports. Sometimes, like in the Lutte wrestling, he excels, sometimes, like playing Cricket in Jamaica, he loses hard.

While he’s in the country, training to compete in their sports, he learns about the culture.  Along with a coach, he usually has a local host guide him around the country teaching Jones, and the ultimately the viewers, about the country’s history, food, drink, music, and people.  It’s a fascinating show.

Jones and his Italian Mama from the Italy episode.

    Jones in Australia

The highlight for me is seeing Jones in a tiny speedo, which he usually has to wear in every episode (seems the rest of the world is more comfortable with a man’s body than the U.S).  Check out the Australia and Senegal episodes (a must see if you like checking out ripped men in speedos) for the full monty of Dhani.

    daaaaaaaammmmmmnnnnnn….somebody’s getting wet…

You can’t help but to fall in love with Dhani while watching this show. He’s genuine, competitive, kind, smart, and funny.   The kind of guy you want to travel the world with. Also the kind of guy you want representing Americans to the rest of the world.  What can I say? I’m a sucker for guys who love to travel.  Especially if they looks like this:

Much respect to Dhani Jones for creating a really entertaining, interesting, inspiring and educational show.  And for wearing that speedo. God damn.

Check out more of this awesome show at Dhani Tackles The Globe.
